Chile y Potosi Two moderate quakes hit Western South America on Wednesday

Two earthquakes struck Western South America on Wednesday.

The first one hit Chile just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night measuring a 5.1. This quake struck offshore, about 39 miles north of Valparaiso, Chile. The depth was 14.5 miles and because of this only light shaking was felt.

Another quake struck just up the 'Ring of Fire', north of the 5.1 in Chile. This quake struck Bolivia and was a 4.7-magnitude with no reports of damage. This was a light to moderate earthquake 66 miles southwest of Potosi, Bolivia.

"USGS says none are connected, however the entire Pacific Plate is connected," said TheWeatherSpace.com Senior Meteorologist Kevin Martin. "In no way, shape, or form can anyone say these quakes do not affect other areas of the world because they do. What is even more interesting is usually when Chile or Peru has a quake, Central America on up to California does just 24 hours later. These quakes will move north along the Ring of Fire in that pattern and it will be interesting to follow."
